GENERAL HOME ECONOMICS AND HORTICULTURE
RULES AND REGULATIONS
RULE 1: GOVERNING RULES
All entries and awards are subject to the General Rules of the Harris County Fair and Special Rules of the Junior Auction Sales Rules. All Rules must be adhered to or project will be disqualified. Please read before proceeding.
RULE 2: APPLICATION FOR ENTRY
Each article entered must be entered separately and accompanied by the appropriate entry fee. Printed forms must be filled out in accordance with the instructions giving name, age, class to be entered and other necessary information, including required signatures. In addition, a complete summary sheet is required for all student exhibitor entries. This summary is to be completed and signed by the CEA, AST, or appropriate 4-H Leader. Forms not completely filled out will not be accepted, and the entry fee will be forfeited.
RULE 3: ALL ENTRIES MUST BE POSTMARKED BY SEPTEMBER 17, 2010
RULE 4: GRAND CHAMPION WINNER
An exhibitor whose project wins Grand Champion in its division cannot enter a project in that same division the following year.
RULE 5: AGE DESIGNATIONS
A. Juniors…………………9 (or in the third grade) to 13 years of age
B. Seniors……………….14 to 19 years of age (must still be in High School)
C. Adults………………..20 to 64 years of age
D. Senior Citizens………Over 65 years of age
RULE 6: ENTRY FEES
The entry fee is $15.00 per Junior and Senior/entry. Adult entries are $10.00 per entry with no entry fee for Senior Citizens.
RULE 7: ENTRIES DUE ON FAIR GROUNDS
All Home Economics and Horticulture entries are to be checked in between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2010. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED BEFORE OR AFTER THIS DATE AND TIME.
RULE 8: ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A. All articles must be made by one individual and only by the person whose name appears on the entry card. Projects
made by groups or organizations will not be accepted.
B. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE OF A SIZE NO LARGER THAN THE EXHIBITOR IS ABLE TO HAND CARRY
INTO THE EXHIBIT HALL. IF THE PROJECT DOES NOT MEET THIS REQUIREMENT, IT WILL BE
DISQUALIFIED FROM THE SHOW.
C. All articles must have been made within the last year prior to the current Fair (October through September), and not
previously entered in the Harris County Fair unless otherwise indicated under Special Rules.
D. More than one entry will be accepted in each division provided that each entry is in a different class. Items in the same
class will NOT be accepted (2 jars of tomatoes, 2 painted shirts, etc.).
E. EVERY EXHIBITOR is required to submit eligibility form for each different entry. One original form may be
used and copies of that form will be accepted as long as the original is on file in some department. PLEASE
HAVE A COPY OF THIS FORM AVAILABLE DURING CHECK-IN.
RULE 9: REGISTRATION COMMITTEE
The registration committee reserves the right to accept or reject any entry depending on conditions and suitability for exhibit. The committee has the right to reclassify any exhibit. Articles not classified in these rules will not be accepted for
competition. Entries will be exhibited subject to available space at the discretion of the Department Superintendent.
RULE 10: JUDGING
Judging will be done by highly qualified judges, whose decisions will be final. Committee Members will not be eligible to
judge or work in the Show in which they or their children are exhibiting. Each show will be judged by Class. Ribbons will
be given as follows:
Blue……..90-100
Red………80-89
White…….70-79
Green……..Participation for below 70
Judging will be closed to the public; no exhibitors can be present during the judging.
RULE 11: AWARDS
Ribbons will be awarded to all participants.
Best Of Class ribbons will be awarded for each age group in each Class.
Best Of Show ribbons will be awarded to each age group for each Division.
RULE 12: JUNIOR AND SILENT AUCTION
Participants in either the Junior or Silent Auctions are subject to the Junior Auction Sale Special Rules, except that Silent Auction participants are not subject to the picture charge.
Eligibility – Entries are limited to exhibitors who are members, and in good standing, of FFA, 4-H, FCCLA clubs, or who are enrolled in Home Economics classes at their respective schools who do not offer the FCCLA membership. These exhibitors must currently be enrolled in public, private , or home school elementary or secondary school in Harris County, Texas. Live or Silent Auction must be checked on the entry card if the exhibitor wishes to sell in the Live or Silent Auction, if item is selected by Judges.
RULE 13: PICKING UP EXHIBITS
A. All exhibits MUST remain until after Silent Auction is over on Saturday October 24, 2009. Entries CANNOT be
picked up without a Claim Ticket.
B. NO FOOD ENTRIES WILL BE RETURNED. NO CONTAINERS, PLATES, JARS, CANS, ETC. This includes the
entire exhibit that has been turned in. Ribbons must be picked up.
C. All other entries not picked up 6:00 p.m. on Saturday will become the property of the Harris County Fair. |
