JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOW
SPECIAL RULES

RULE 1: ENTRIES
All entries in this department are subject to the General Rules and Regulations of the Harris County Fair as well as the following Special Rules.

RULE 2: CERTIFICATION OF ENTRIES
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE MADE BY THE CEAs OR ASTs. ENTRIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FROM INDIVIDUAL JUNIOR EXHIBITORS. THE SUMMARY SHEETS MUST BE COMPLETED WITH SIGNATURES AND ENTRY FEES TO BE ACCEPTED!

RULE 3: ENTRY PARTICIPANTS
Entries are limited to boys and girls who are members in good standing of a 4-H Club or FFA Chapter and who have conducted their project under the supervision of a CEA (4-H Leader) or AST and who are currently enrolled in public or private elementary or secondary school
A. All entries must be signed by the supervising CEA or AST.
B. Each exhibitor may enter a maximum of: 1 market steer, 1 market swine, 1 market lamb, 1 market goat, 1 market turkey,
1 pen of market broilers, and 1 pen of market rabbits. All other divisions have no maximum number of entries per
exhibitor.
C. Entries will be accepted until all available space is filled. All entries and fees received after space is filled will be
returned.
D. Supervising CEA or AST who knowingly signs and/or certifies an erroneous entry will be prohibited from certifying entries for a period of two (2) years.
E. All entries in the Junior Livestock Show are subject to the current rules and regulations of the Texas Animal Health Commission.
F. All animals that weigh the same will show in the same class where applicable.
G. All market animals must be validated with an official Harris County Fair Tag (see Important Dates)
Exhibitors may validate more than one steer, swine, lamb, goat, turkey, pen of broilers, pen of rabbits, but may enter and show only one of each.

RULE 4: SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST
Showmanship contests will be conducted for the following divisions: Junior Market Steers, Junior Market Swine, Junior Market Lambs, Junior Market Goats, Scramble Heifers, and Junior Breeding Beef. There will be two age groups as follows: Juniors – 13 years of age and under and Seniors – 14 years of age and over. Age divisions will be determined by the birthday of the exhibitor as of October 1 the year of the Fair. No substitute exhibitor will be eligible for showmanship contests. Exhibitors must show the animal they exhibited during competition in the showmanship contests.

RULE 5: ARRIVAL/RELEASES
See Tentative Schedule of Events and Division Special Rules.

RULE 6: ANIMAL BEDDING
The Fair will provide wood shavings or sand bedding. The Harris County Fair will make every effort to have additional bedding (wood shavings) available for exhibitors to purchase.

RULE 7: ADDITIONAL POWER
Portable Generators will NOT be allowed in the livestock area.

RULE 9: UNETHICAL FITTING AND SHOWING
The showing of unethically fitted livestock is prohibited. Unethical fitting within the meaning of this rule will be deemed to consist of any method of altering the natural conformation of any part of the animal body, evidenced by presence of abnormal tissue issue or foreign substance.

RULE 10: USE OF ANIMALS FOR JUDGING CONTEST
When an exhibitor is called upon to furnish animals for the judging contest, they will be expected to cooperate with the show. Some kind of notification card will be posted at the exhibitor’s pen or stall if that exhibitor was not previously notified. An effort will be made to notify all exhibitors prior to using their animals.

RULE 11: GRAND CHAMPION WINNER
The exhibitor of the Grand Champion Market animal is not eligible to enter that Division for a period of one (1) year. They are not ineligible in other Divisions. The exception to this rule is in the Breeding Divisions.

RULE 12: ANIMAL TESTING
The Harris County Fair reserves the right to have blood or urine laboratorial analysis made on any animal entered for
competition. An exhibitor of an animal producing an analysis with a quantity of any unapproved medication including, but not limited to a diuretic, will be forever barred from future competition at Harris County Fair. Upon arrival to the Show all animals must be free from any drug withdrawl time.

RULE 13: ANIMAL CARE
It is the personal responsibility of exhibitors of all market animals to take proper care of their animals from the date of the auction until the animals are delivered on the truck of the commissioned agent at release hour on Sunday October 24, 2010.

RULE 14: BUYERS NAMES
All FFA Chapters, 4-H Clubs, FCCLA Groups, and Home Economics Departments who have students submit entries must list the names and addresses of potential buyers, who will be sent an invitation to the 2010 Harris County Fair Auction by the Fair Association. By September 17, 2010 Entries will not be accepted without complete information.

RULE 15: EXHIBITORS OWNERSHIP
All exhibitors must be the legal owners of the livestock by the validation date as set by the Harris County Fair. In addition, the livestock must be in the exhibitors immediate care during the feeding period; including being penned, housed, etc. at a facility within a reasonable distance from the exhibitors home as verified and confirmed by the Supervising CEA or AST

RULE 16: WEIGH BACKS
Animals which weigh out either at weigh in or during the show will be backed off the scale and given only one more chance to comply with weight.

RULE 17: HEALTH PAPERS
No Health papers are required.
